Roots of the bad blood btw Croats and Muslims- while Croatia was being attacked, Izetbegovic (Bosnian president at the time) stated publicly ‘this is not our war’ - stayed neutral while the Serbs attacked Croatia. Fast fwd a few years when Serbs attacked Bosnia, the Bosnian army was woefully unprepared. It was the Croat- municipalities in Hercegovina and also in Bosnia which organized defense against the Serbs. Without the help and organization of local Croat communities, Bosnia would’ve been quickly decimated by Serbs. Izetbegovic’ ‘Kumbaya’ strategy vs Serbia failed, Serbs were way better armed, and negotiated in bad faith. Very similar to the cynical attitude of Russian strategy re; Ukraine.
